To be able to bring life to characters, create a visual story where there was once nothing but a bare page, it's an incredible process to experience and enjoy." It's a pleasure to showcase Lisa's work. Enjoy!
Q & A with Lisa M Griffin, IllustratorWhat are you working on at the moment? I have just
begun working on my next children's book project. It is a wonderful
story for kids, positive and uplifting, so I am truly thrilled that the
publisher contacted me to illustrate it. Is there anything you're busy promoting? Yes, in a few
weeks my latest children's book is coming out! It is titled Applesauce
and I am very proud of all the hard work that went into bringing this lovely story to life. ![]() Can you recommend a children's book that you recently enjoyed? There are so
many! I always return to a few of my true favorites and keep copies of
them in my studio to draw upon for inspiration and/or to read with the
kids. Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg, Zen Ties by Jon J Muth and Where the
Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak... great tales created by
inspiring and talented author/illustrators.
Do you recall the best piece of advice you received when you first started out? The one piece
of advice that I believe most illustrators can't hear enough is to be true
to yourself. This is a hard business, you need to have (or quickly
develop) a thick skin. If I had stopped drawing at my very first "thanks
but no thanks", I wouldn't be where I am today. I know it may sound cliche,
but if you believe in yourself and what you are capable of doing, then
things will happen. Be patient, keep at it, and never forget why you wanted to be an illustrator in the first place. ![]() About Lisa M GriffinLisa lives in New Hampshire, USA with her husband and three children.
