Sunshine Smile Publications is delighted to showcase the very talented Danni Bradford!
Danni is an illustrator who loves creating
characters. Working traditionally, using water colours and ink, she brings her picture
book characters to life and lets their stories unfold. Danni graduated
from the Kent Institute of Art and Design (now UCA). In addition to her
children’s book illustration, her artwork also includes greeting cards, prints
and bespoke pieces, using a variety of mediums including acrylics, water colours
and screen printing. It’s a pleasure to showcase her beautiful work! Enjoy!
Q & A with Danni Bradford, Author IllustratorWhat are you working on at the moment? Well, what am I not working on! I seem to be doing
a bit of everything. It's a wonderful and frightening time for me; my agent
Sophie Gordon at Darley Anderson has the first two of my children's books on my
characters 'Henry and Bear' and these are being sent out to publishers. ![]() I also
have a third sketched H&B book that I'm working on at the moment. Alongside
Henry and Bear I've been working on developing another two non-H&B
children's books. The books are all pretty top secret, and I cant give too much
away so I try to draw and paint pieces to promote H&B on Facebook and Twitter
to keep fans excited about the project, at the moment its Bear yoga! ![]() As
well as the books I'm working on a hand screen-printed card range and a few
private canvas commissions Oh...and a hand painted toy box. I like to keep
busy!
Is there anything you're busy promoting? Mainly Henry and Bear. It would be amazing to
have a publisher come on board with the project and see it in print. After four
years of development and work, I have what I can only describe as a mountain of
ideas that need an outlet!
There's also the card range, I'm promoting and selling those as well.
And I'm always available for commissions!
Can you
recommend a children's book that you've recently enjoyed? When I lived
and worked in Australia I was introduced to the work of Shaun Tan, he just
creates such beautiful and emotional books. 'The Red Tree' and 'The Rabbits'
are both books I recently picked up and enjoyed again, and will again soon! Do you have a piece of advice for beginning
illustrators?
Be true to yourself. And be prepared for
knock backs. I think networking with Henry
and Bear has been amazing I get fan mails and wonderful messages from all
over the world and I love it, they keep me strong and they keep me going. It's
a hard industry and it can be lonely, so keep your chin up! Sophie's Umbrella!![]() ![]() | The Adventures of Henry and Bear!![]() 'Henry
and Bear' are a series of fantastical stories about
