As the Author of the Day at this year's London Book Fair, Julia Donaldson entertained her audience, revealing an old poetry book, titled The Book of A Thousand Poems. She also shared memories of receiving the gift on her fifth birthday. Now in her new role as Children's Laureate, Donaldson has unveiled her Manifesto, and has revealed that her childhood dream of becoming a poet was inspired by reciting poems from that precious poetry book. About her role as Children's Laureate, Donaldson has stated, "Because of my background in music and drama, stories in performance will be the focus of my two years in office." She adds, "I am planning a library tour. I am hoping these occasions will result in more children joining libraries and generate publicity for the campaign to halt the closures, which are so damaging to our child readers - the adult readers of the future."
